Computer Help

This section is designed to provide you with a basic handbook of the computer software that will be used in the computer labs for this course (as well as some other helpful tips about the software). The Computer Labs will use a variety of software that is deemed appropriate for understanding the material in this course. Most of the mathematics will be done with either the spreadsheet software, Excel, or a powerful symbolic algebra package developed specifically for mathematics, Maple. In addition, there will be some work that requires the use of an internet browser, such as Netscape or Explorer. Your Lab reports are to be typed as stated in the Laboratory guidelines, so you will need to use some word processor, such as Word.

The main computer help page for any particular lab can be linked to from the primary lab page. This Computer Help provides assistance on Word, Excel, and Maple. Click on one of the links located under the Computer Help button for more information. Hopefully, these help pages can answer your questions, but don't forget that the Computer Lab is also an exercise in teamwork. If you are having difficulty with one of the questions in the lab, then you should contact your partner to discuss how to handle the work. (As the semester progresses and you meet others in your class, then the network of other students should help you answer your questions.) If a problem is taking too long, then you should contact me (mahaffy@math.sdsu.edu or 594-3743) to clarify the problem.
